Rod's Home Page

If this page LOOKS old, it because it IS old. (created sometime in 1997)

For those of you that don't know me (that's pretty much the entire population of the planet), my name is Rod Gasson, and my 'claim to fame' is from writing software for the C64/128. My 'flagship' program is a C128 offline mail reader called QWKRR.

I have also written a rather 'unique' file reader for the C128 called Browser.

However, this is NOT a QWKRR or Browser support page, nor is it a personal page. It is simply my own default page that I used to use as a starting point for Web browsing from my ISP, VCSWEB.COM, a small system with several dozen users, and hosting web pages for approximate 50 different domains.

If you want personal info about me I suggest you check out Gaelyne's Web site.

16th Feb. 2006

I (videocam services) closed our doors in Aug 2005. After doing our yearly taxes I found that our expenses were exceeding our income by a considerable amount, and getting worse each year.

Trying to keep the business going when new DVD players could be had for less than $50, and full featured VCR's selling for less than $100 was pretty futile.

Unfortunately, our web hosting business simply didn't grow fast enough to support us either, and for various reasons I ";dropped the ball" in regards computer/tech support, network maintenance, etc. :-(

SO, as of today I've started full time study at the Noarlunga TAFE. I'm studying towards the Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Network Security). Incorporating Certificate III in IT (Network Admin) and Cert IV in IT (Networking)

Meanwhile, if anyone wants to offer me a job NOW, part time, casual, or even permanent send me an email so we can discuss it further. Sorry, I didn't mean to turn this into a blog.

29th July 2005.

I'm looking for work. Although fully qualified in radio, TV, VCR and camcorder repairs, this is no longer an area I wish to work. However, my skills gained in this industry has helped me understand the workings of computers (down to component level) from the very old C64 through to the current models.

My main interests these days are PHP/MySQL programming, and server maintenance. Preferably linux based, mainly because I don't find windows to be challenging enough (other than trying to be productive while dealing with the never ending crashes. If required, I'd be happy to work more with Windows though.

Although not formally trained, I have had many years experience from running our own servers.
I have written our own DNS administration software and a simple online ordering system with an XLS to MySQL demonstration.
I've setup and maintain the mail servers, web servers, firewall, etc, for all of the domains we host.
Unfortunately, our expenses still exceed our income, and as such, I need additional work to make ends meet.

If you are a web host, small ISP, or similar, and think I can be of use to you, please send me an Email.

You can view/download a copy of my resume here..

When searching for products or information, I use Yellow Pages , and the White Pages.
For a library full of good information check out Washington University data archives.

VCR/Camcorder Manufacturers
A VCR/Camcorder tech by trade, I like to check out what the various manufacturers are going to dump out for me to repair next year. The companies that have shown up on the web so far are: (Keep in mind, this was back in 1997).

Sony Philips Sharp
Sanyo Panasonic JVC
National Semi-Conductors (National/Panasonic)

Local TV:
During the course of my work I'm required to watch a lot of TV.
I like to check out what the various local stations are up to.

ABC TV Channel 7 Channel 9
TEN SBS Australian Television Guide

For checking on movie reviews, I use IMDB: The Internet Movie Database

Video and Electronic Magazines:
For electronics info, I usually start out using:

Bull Electrical As I'm interested in electronics I found great interest in looking at the products offered for sale by Bull Electrical. This isn't your usual electronics store - it carries such items as plans for a "death ray" machine, not to mention anti-gravity devices, and the cables used for guided missiles.

Since I often deal with, and phone people and places overseas, I couldn't get by without a Currency Converter and a World Timezone Converter.

And finally, just for fun stuff I like checking out live webcams.

Bull Electrical LiveCam Shipcams (cool)

If you are really lucky, you may even see us on our WorkshopCam

Speaking of video, here's our own version of the 'famous' uga-chug dancing baby
